Moxibustion

Moxibustion, or “moxa”, is the burning of a Chinese Herb Mugwort Leaf (Ai Ye) over a specifically chosen acupuncture point. It comes pre-rolled or in charcoal like sticks that are held a few centimetres away from the patients skin, with the heat level being managed by how close or far from the skin you get. The smouldering herb creates a pleasant warming and relaxing sensation, that penetrates deep into the body.

Traditionally we use moxa to expel cold and warm the meridians, and to promote the flow of energy through the body. In our clinic we may apply this treatment option for reproductive health, fertility, pregnancy, mal-positioned babies, painful periods, fatigue, poor circulation, poor digestion or musculoskeletal pain. Moxa is also commonly used in children’s health for cases of bedwetting, digestive issues or weakened immunity. Your practitioner will be able to determine if moxibustion is appropriate to add to your treatment protocol.
